Does handheld GPS allow you to enter latitude and longitude? Or if not, does it show the latitude and longitude on the screen. I want to buy a Garmin etrex H to find the corners of my land. Thanks in advance community.

I have a TomTom and it does allow you to enter latitude and longitude to locate a place. It also shows you the L&L of places where you are.

Looks like it could possibly be used but it has a number of strikes against it. First the listed accuracy in Garmin’s specs is only about 50′ – not good. Second, it appears to be a serial interface with the computer, so unless you have an older computer with a serial port, you will not be able to directly transfer waypoints. Of course there are work arounds for the serial port issue, but why bother. Finally, and as a new cacher it might not matter, it will only accept 500 waypoints. I assume you either have this model GPS or can get one at an extremely attractive price. If I didn’t already have an eMap, I’d probably spend the extra bucks for something like a low end eTrex or similar GPS.

Q&A: which is better a garmin handheld or a magellan handheld?

Question by madfish64: which is better a garmin handheld or a magellan handheld?
I am looking into buying a relatively cheap handheld gps for geocaching, boating, hiking, and hunting. If i get a magellan it will either be the explorist 210 or the 500le if i go with garmin it will be the etrex legend, or the etrex legend hcx. What do you guys think?

Garmin for sure. I have an etrex legend myself and love it.

I have had a couple friends who owned magellan’s and the cases broke. Although they were still on warranty, magellan would not honour it.

Question by tattoo: Are there any coupon codes for Garmin GPS 76CSX Handheld GPS?
Where can I find a coupon code for Garmin GPS 76CSX Handheld GPS

Answer by May
This little guy cost about $ 400.00…

The Newelectronx GPS has about the same features without the high price tag. You say you are looking for a coupon, you dont need a coupon for the GPS cost. Well, I guess I can only speak from experience on using my GPS’s. I have owned both TomTom and Garmin and got greater GREATER joy from Newelectronx GPS. It has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, electronic compass, microSD card slot, color touch screen and turn-by-turn routing — features that have made the GPS a serious outdoor enthusiasts GPS.

From using it, I can tell it has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, which acquires satellite signals quickly and tracks your location in challenging conditions, such as heavy tree cover or deep canyons. You can use the built-in electronic compass to view bearing information even while you’re standing still. The bright, color touch display makes it easy to distinguish details on the screen in any kind of lighting.

Q&A: What is a good, inexpensive and relativley easy gps for recreational boating?

Question by PrettyandPolish: What is a good, inexpensive and relativley easy gps for recreational boating?
I am looking for a simple gps for a boat. Nothing too special, no fish finder etc., just something recreational for lakes. No fishing gps please, just something easy to use and tells me the depth of the water.

If it has a sonar fitted you are looking at a fish finder if you want it or not. Any combined GPS and SONAR unit will be in the cheaper end of the market a fish finder. A simple Humminbird or Garmin or whatever may be either a GPS, or a fish finder. Any combined unit will be a fish finder with GPS. It is rare today to find a depth only indicator that is not a part of a larger system, such as fitted to yachts and combined cheap units.

Given that the cost of a reasonable recreational combined unit is less than half my first depth only indicator cost of 30 years ago I don’t see any alternative.

There is not much complicated about modern GPS units or SONAR. The default settings suit most casual users and the instruction manuals are aimed directly at the first time user. Most I have seen are rarely ever used to their full capacity and many features after the initial fiddling are never accessed anyway. The very cheap ones do have limited abilities to play with the settings, and if you don’t want to in the first place then that is just fine. Not reading the manual is the most common reason people have problems – that is beyond anyone’s control other than the operator!

Good luck, there are some very good little units from as little as $ 200, and from twice that you should find everything you need. Buy the brand that is supported locally so servicing is not an issue. Once you look for quality and reliability you should look to Furuno – in my opinion and experience the best quality units when your life and livelihood depends on them. Their SONAR technology has led the pack since they introduced the Chromascope colour units of the ’70′s. The rest are judged against Furuno.

Question by carman: Which is the best value gps for hiking?
I am planning to hike down into the Grand Canyon and would like an easy to use, low cost gps. How do wrist mounted ones compare to hand held ones?

Best answer:

Answer by becca
i know you are looking for a gps to hike the grand canyon, but i have to tell you that you don’t need one. i have hiked the canyon on multiple occasions and there is no need for a gps. the trails are well marked, there are rangers everywhere and you are not allowed to leave the trails because of the fragile ecosystem.
